Michael Leach is an academic, poet, and poetry reviewer who lives and works in Bendigo on unceded Dja Dja Wurrung Country. His tertiary qualifications include a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Graduate Certificate in Population Studies, Graduate Certificate of Science (Applied Statistics), Master of Biostatistics, and PhD in Pharmacy. Michael’s poems have appeared in journals such as Cordite Poetry Review, anthologies such as The Best Australian Science Writing 2024 (NewSouth Publishing, 2024), and his three books: Chronicity (Melbourne Poets Union, 2020), Natural Philosophies (Recent Work Press, 2022), and Rural Ecologies (In Case of Emergency Press, 2024). Michael’s poems have won or been otherwise recognised in the UniSA Mental Health and Wellbeing Poetry Competition (2015), Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine (2021), Friends of the Alliance Poetry Competition (2022), Minds Shine Bright Confidence Writing Competition (2022 and 2023), Woollahra Digital Literary Award (2023), Hush Foundation Kindness in Health Writing Prize (2024), University of Canberra Health Writing Prize (2024), and Liquid Amber Poetry Prize: Poetry of Change (2024). Michael’s next poetry book, Chords in the Soundscapes, is forthcoming from Ginninderra Press.
